Last weekend I was invited into the ABC studios to talk all things golf. Listen to my interview with Niav Owens.
Anybody who cares about how they look has probably invested the time and money to have a suit tailor-made. It feels good, it looks good, and as a result you’ll probably wear it more often than an off-the-rack suit.
As a golf coach, I hear many reasons why students feel now is the right time to get a lesson. There’s the lifelong golfer who has survived without a single coaching session, but just can’t kick a bad habit. Or the spontaneous student who recalls their lesson a couple of years ago and reports they just haven’t hit it as well since.
Where were you at 1am on Monday 22 July or 5am on Monday 13 August? If you're anything like me (and based in Australia), your alarm was going off and you were soon glued to the TV watching Tiger Woods battling it out with Francesco Molinari and Brooks Koepka at the British Open and USPGA majors.
Australia's winter months can be a very tough time for both golfers and golf coaches. For a golfer, their bodies become inflexible and cold hands struggle to hold on to the club for dear life! It's tough as well as frustrating for coaches as they watch their students struggling to get their 'golfing muscles' moving.
I am extremely proud to have designed three different golf-specific exercise programs for an exciting new app called The Workout List. All programs can be performed at home, in the gym or on the golf course before a round.
As a golf coach, I am a strong believer in training aids. They can be used in a lesson environment, during practise sessions or at home. Unfortunately, I know there are many ineffective training aids out there too.
What do you focus on during your swing on the golf course? Is it keeping your head down or your left arm straight? Or is it the timing of your wrist cock or making a good turn to the top of the backswing? Whatever it is, you might want to think about leaving it on the driving range.
I was recently asked by one of my students what my thoughts on the left arm were, and its role in the golf swing. There are not many sports or skills where the left arm (non-dominant arm) plays such a big role in the overall movement. Think of tennis, squash, writing or throwing a ball, the non-dominant arm would hardly ever perform the majority of the overall function or skill here.
I just got a call to be interviewed on a radio station in Botswana, Ya Rona FM. With literally 30 seconds to prepare I was ON AIR and being asked a series of questions…
A lot of my lessons recently have been centered around weight transfer and how to get the correct sequencing moving back and through.
I think if we can understand how the upper body and lower body work, both together and against each other, we can get a clearer idea on the whole weight transfer concept.
Have you ever hit so many shots on a hole you didn’t know what to do with yourself? I know I have, and it’s beyond frustrating. It’s fair to say that Sergio Garcia did not have a good day at the Masters. I’ve got my theory on what happened. Let’s look at how it played out.
